Have you ever wondered what the most expensive keywords are? Hubspot recently published a great infographic researched by Chris Zook from WebFX that addressed that very subject – and the results may or may not surprise you.
In a nutshell: 78% relate to Legal, 8% relate to Water Damage, 6% relate to Insurance, 4% relate to Drugs & Alcohol, 3% relate to online education, and only 1% relates to Business Services.
The most expensive keyword is “San Antonio Care Wreck Attorney” and it weighs in at $670.44 per click; the least expensive (#100 on the list) is “Michigan Accident Attorney”, coming in at a mere $265.60.
Why should this interest you? In his article, Chris Zook has made a couple of salient points about why the costs are so high; points you may want to consider in your own keyword research. For example, if the keyword cost is high because you are going head to head with one competitor, it may be time to take advantage of lesser used but more effective (and less expensive) keywords or keyword phrases. You may attract the same amount of traffic but end up paying less for your clients.
